Clean Up Australia Day 2019 -

Sunday 3 March is Clean Up Australia Day and for those interested in participating the details are as below. Meeting at 9am in Dohertys Road, Altona North, approx. 200 metres east of Grieve Parade on Sunday week. The clean up will be complete at the latest by 11am from where we will proceed to Bizurk coffee shop in Millers Road, Altona, for refreshments. National Tree Day 2019 & Park Opening -

Great News. Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) CEO, Jacqui Weatherill, has agreed to combine National Tree Day with the official community park opening. The Planet Ark National Tree Day will be on 28 July 2019 where in excess of 2600 indigenous Trees and shrubs will be planted into the Kororoit Creek environment below the escarpment that would have housed the original Creek Course before settlement. A letter from Hon Jill Hennessy MP -

Kororoit Creek Preservation and Maintenance Program In September, I announced a $450,000 grant that will serve to protect and preserve the precious land surrounding Kororoit Creek at the Altona Memorial Park for generations to come. This grant will be used for maintenance works for the Eastern Reserve Area of the cemetery grounds, which is full of environmentally significant native flora, as well as land of cultural significance for the Wurundjeri people who hunted, fished and camped along Kororoit Creek for thousands of years. New Community Park in Altona North -

The Victorian Government's provision of $300,000 in funding for environmental works on vacant cemetery land at Altona will fast-track the opening of a memorial parkland and nature reserve on the Kororoit Creek site, said Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust CEO, Jacqui Weatherall. Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek (FOLKC) was incorporated in April 2001 and held its first planting on 3rd June 2001.
