FOLKC members toasted a successful year at a function at Millers Inn last week celebrating the planting of nearly 3000 indigenous trees and shrubs along the Kororoit Creek, 1500 along the recently completed section of Kororoit Creek Trail within Wyndham, with the balance planted below the Memorial Park in Altona North.

A very successful Toyota sponsored National Tree Day was held in July courtesy of our sponsors, Melbourne Water, Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, Hobsons Bay City Council, Cedar Meats, Nestle and Delta Group.

The group Christmas function at Millers Inn was a great success thanks to the ongoing sponsorship and support over our 14 years by the management of Millers Inn where, during the course of the evening, several Ray Blythman Memorial Awards for Community Service were presented. These awards are presented to members of FOLKC in recognition of their outstanding service to the preservation of the environment and wellbeing of Kororoit Creek and are made in memory of Altona’s Ray Blythman, one of the foundation members of FOLKC.

This year the awards were given to the following FOLKC Members:

Dean Mitchelmore;

Jennifer & Brian Steadman;

Ken Daley;

Kristen & Craig Wilson;

Len Towerzey;

Merridee & Leigh Hardinge; and

Olga Mitchelmore.

Environmental Excellence Awards were presented to many of FOLKC’s sponsors in recognition of their contribution over the past ten years to the preservation of the environment and wellbeing of Kororoit Creek. They include:

Aurizon/CRT Group;

Delta Group;

Hobsons Bay City Council;

Melbourne Water;

Mobil Altona Refinery;

Transpacific Industries; and

Toyota Australia.
